Parliament Session LIVE: Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi Congratulate Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

New Delhi: BJP leader Om Birla was elected to the post of Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha after a voice vote today. The vote for the post of Speaker was necessitated after the Centre and the opposition could not reach a consensus on a name leading to an election after decades. Mr Birla, a three-time MP from Rajasthan’s Kota and the Speaker in the last Lok Sabha, contested against Congress’s pick K Suresh, an eight-term MP from Kerala’s Mavelikara.
