Kerala CM challenges Amit Shah’s claims of ’early warning’ about Wayanad landslides: ‘Red alert was issued only after…’

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday challenged Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertion that the state government was warned as early as July 23 about potential heavy rainfall and landslides in Wayanad. The Kerala chief minister also pointed out that the ‘red alert’ was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) only after the landslides had already struck the district.CM Vijayan stated that the IMD had only issued an orange alert for Wayanad before the landslides, which occurred after the region experienced over 500 millimetres of rainfall—far exceeding IMD predictions.
