Imphal/Churachandpur: According to a notification, tension over raising community flags in a "disputed area" between two villages with distinct tribal populations has led to the imposition of a curfew in portions of Manipur's Churachandpur district. Following the raising of community flags in the "disputed area" between V Munhoih and Rengkai villages in Churachandpur subdivision on Tuesday, tensions between the Zomi and Hmar tribes flared.
Curfews were enforced in the two villages as well as throughout the district's Kangvai, Samulamlan, and Sangaikot subdivisions by Churachandpur district magistrate Dharun Kumar. According to the statement, the curfew will be loosened in the remaining Churachandpur areas from 6 am to 5 pm until April 17 to enable residents to obtain necessities.
According to the notification, any further relaxation will be examined and communicated after an evaluation of the state of law and order. Rengkai and V Munhoih village officials met with the superintendent of police and deputy commissioner of Churachandpur and urged residents to keep the peace and refrain from spreading false information on social media.
