Lawyers should not fuel allegations in matrimonial disputes: Delhi HC

By : Sandhya
Delhi, in marriage disputes, the Delhi High Court has ruled that attorneys should counsel clients toward a settlement rather than accusing and "fueling" one another.
A bench consisting of Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Amit Sharma noted that in matrimonial cases, the parties involved suffered from emotional distress, their personal lives being brought to a complete halt, and their "frustration and exasperation" were acknowledged. However, the bench noted that peace and quiet were very important and that litigants' actions in these cases must not go beyond the bounds set down by the law.
In these situations, attorneys bear a heavy burden not just for their own clients but also for the court and society at large. There is an urgent need for calm and peace. In an April 7 ruling, the court stated that attorneys should help clients resolve conflicts rather than stoking accusations against one another.
