Haryana issues show-cause notices to SMO in-charges of 12 CHCs with low sex ratio

Chandigarh According to sources, senior medical officer in-charges of 12 community health centers in regions with poor sex ratios have received show-cause warnings from the Haryana health department. The action is a component of the government's state-wide crackdown on female foeticide.

"We have been strictly implementing the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act in the state," said Virender Yadav, Director of the National Health Mission in Haryana and convenor of the State Task Force established to pursue action against those implicated in female foeticide. Consequently, 300 incorrect Medical Termination of Pregnancy centers' registrations have been canceled or voluntarily withdrawn.

Additional members of the STF include the state drug controller, the director general of women and child development (AYUSH and PCPNDT), the director general of health services, the mission director of the National Health Mission, and representatives from the police and health departments.
