Waqf Act SC hearing LIVE: No interim order as of now, court to reconvene tomorrow at 2 PM

Hearing on the Waqf Amendment Act SC LIVE: On Wednesday, April 16, a Supreme Court bench including Justices Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, heard a number of appeals contesting the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
The Parliament houses enacted the measure in March, and on April 5, President Droupadi Murmu signed it into law. It became effective on April 8. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was approved by 232 votes in the Lok Sabha and 128 votes in the Rajya Sabha.
Numerous opposition parties and personalities, including the Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Aam Aadmi Party, YSRCP, and AIMIM, have filed appeals against the Waqf act. The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board and other NGOs have also petitioned the highest court to overturn it.
