Kolkata: According to officials on Wednesday, the West Bengal Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) consisting of nine members to look into the recent violent incidents in the Murshidabad area. Five inspectors, including four from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and one from the Traffic Police, two Deputy Superintendents, an Additional Superintendent of Police (Intelligence Branch), and the in-charge officer of the Cyber Crime Police Station under the Sundarban Police District make up the SIT.
West Bengal Minorities Commission Chairman Ahmed Hassan Imran, meanwhile, denounced the violence on Wednesday, stating, "Mamata Banerjee said a very good thing that we should go to Delhi and hold a protest there (against the Waqf Amendment Act)."
The TMC MPs would participate in the demonstration with us, she added. We are being forced to comply with this Act needlessly. Protests against the Act that are violent are not good. This should not have been done, according to Mamata Banerjee herself. This is the subject of an ongoing investigation. We denounce it. We all agree that peaceful protests are preferable.
