In his most confident statement to date during these negotiations, US President Donald Trump declared on Thursday that he was absolutely certain of a future trade agreement with Europe. Following his Thursday conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Trump made the assertion. Each voiced confidence that a deal could be reached before the 90-day tariff truce expires, according to a report by news agency Reuters.
Following discussions with Meloni, a key conservative supporter, Trump reportedly told reporters at the Oval Office, "Of course, there will be a trade deal, very much." They really want to make one. Additionally, a trade agreement will be made. I totally anticipate it. It will also be a reasonable price.
In addition to larger tariffs on nearly all other items, the 27-nation European Union is subject to 25% import duties on steel, aluminum, and automobiles. Though she stated that open dialogue may aid in resolving economic conflicts that have strained US-European ties, Meloni, who has positioned herself as a mediator between the US and Europe, acknowledged that she could not lock in a settlement for the entire EU.
