Over the past six months, Tesla has been reducing the Cybertruck's output, lowering factory line targets and even cutting the associated teams by more than half. According to employees who spoke to Business Insider, several of these production lines are currently operating at a tenth of their former capacity. At its Gigafactory in Texas, the EV behemoth has been transferring some employees from the Cybertruck line to the Model Y line.

According to the story, this also occurred in December of last year when the manufacturer surveyed employees about their desired positions and informed them that it would be altering Cybertruck production schedules. According to a Cox Automotive estimate, the company sold 6,406 Cybertrucks in the first three months of 2025, which is half as many as it sold in the previous quarter.

According to the article, which cited a March 20 recall filing, Elon Musk has delivered fewer than 50,000 Cybertrucks to date, despite his earlier claims that there were over a million reservations for the vehicle prior to its introduction. With the release of the $70,000 model of its vehicle in April, Tesla attempted to boost sales. Unlike the more costly four-wheel-drive models, this one has rear-wheel drive.
