In the aftermath of the uproar surrounding his alleged "gaddar" (traitor) joke on Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra took aim at the government on Tuesday, accusing it of launching a systematic attempt to suppress dissenting artists. In a post titled "How to kill an Artist 'democratically'" on X, Kunal Kamra posted what he called a "playbook" that the ruling administration uses to suppress artistic expression and free speech.
While a team visited Kamra's Mahim "home" to "check" his availability, Kamra's most recent post was made the day he failed to appear before Khar police in relation to the case. Later, the comedian made fun of the police, claiming that the visit was a waste of time and public resources.
Kamra was called in for the second time and was expected to appear before Khar police during the day. "To find out if he would be involved in the crime or not, a Khar police squad visited his home in Mahim, where his family resides. Since he didn't, the official stated that a decision regarding the next line of action would be made shortly.
