Sukma: According to police, at least 33 Maoists turned themselves in to security forces in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, with 17 of them carrying a total reward of Rs 49 lakh. Eleven more, including two women, later brought themselves in before police officials after 22 cadres, including nine women, gave themselves in earlier in the day to top police and Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) officials, they added.
According to Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan, the cadres who turned themselves in expressed dissatisfaction with the "hollow" and "inhuman" Maoist doctrine as well as the crimes committed against the indigenous tribes. According to the source, they were also impressed by the new surrender and rehabilitation policy and the state government's "Niyad Nellanar" (your good village) program, which aims to facilitate development projects in isolated areas.
According to him, the Maad (Chhattisgarh) and Nuapada (Odisha) Maoist divisions had up to 22 active surrendered Maoists. Muchaki Joga (33), deputy commander of PLGA (people's liberation guerrilla army) company no. 1 under the Maad division of Maoists, and his wife Muchaki Jogi (28), of the same squad, were among the cadres, according to Chavan. They each carried a bounty of Rs 8 lakh.
