5.8 magnitude earthquake jolts Afghanistan, tremors felt in J&K, Delhi-NCR

Today's earthquake: On Saturday afternoon, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 shook Afghanistan, sending shockwaves over Pakistan and northern India. Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and portions of the Delhi-NCR area were all affected. The earthquake rocked Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and other areas of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region in Pakistan.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake in Afghanistan occurred 130 kilometers below the surface. There have been no reports of damage as of yet. The National Center for Seismology wrote on X, "EQ of M: 5.8, On: 19/04/2025 12:17:53 IST, Lat: 36.10 N, Long: 71.20 E, Depth: 130 Km, Location: Afghanistan."

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reports that the earthquake occurred near the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan."...I sensed the shudder. "My chair shook while I was in the office," a Srinagar resident told ANI. An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 struck Nagaon, Assam, earlier today at 7:38 a.m. The National Center for Seismology reports that the earthquake occurred 10 kilometers below the surface.
