NEW DELHI The Supreme Court denied a petition on Monday seeking a directive to allow students who passed their Class 12 examinations in 2023 to participate in JEE-Advanced 2025 for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih stated that the subject was in the policy domain, and courts should exercise caution when intruding in academic concerns.
The petition, filed by 18 Indian Institute of Technology aspirants who passed their Class 12 exams in 2023, stated that while they were eligible for a final attempt in the Joint Entrance Examination -Mains in 2025, they were ineligible to take the JEE-Advanced on May 18.
The petitioners claimed they were aggrieved by the joint admission board's "abrupt and arbitrary policy reversal" regarding the eligibility criteria for JEE-Advanced 2025, which initially increased the permissible attempts from two to three on November 5, 2024, only to rescind it on November 18 last year.
