Manipur police rescue 4 people from illegal confinement, arrest 3 women

On Sunday, the Manipur Police rescued four persons from alleged unjust captivity and detained three women claiming to be members of the Armour of Manipur (AMO), an Imphal-based women's movement. The operation was carried out in Langol Laimanai, Imphal West district. Police verified that the four victims were retrieved from a residence in the vicinity.
The arrested women have been identified as Thangjam Basanti Leima (50) of Thongjao Mayai Leikai, Waikhom Geeta Devi (36) of Changangei, and Kangabam Sundari Devi (57) of Changangei Uchekon. During interrogation, the defendants, led by Basanti, confessed to demanding ₹5 lakh from the victims in an elopement case.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Manipur Police recovered 13 automobiles during a special operation to recover stolen and abducted vehicles from antisocial elements.
