Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Tuesday that she will visit the riot-torn regions of Murshidabad district in the first week of May.

"We have announced compensation of ₹10 lakh each for the families of those who were killed, and financial assistance under the state-funded housing scheme for those who have lost their homes." The government is also willing to accept responsibility for the education of children from riot-affected families. A study is being conducted to determine which shops have been affected. I plan to visit in May. "I'll do the rest then," Banerjee responded.

The chief minister was addressing a public distribution program in West Midnapore, where she launched and set the groundwork for a number of projects totaling several thousand crore rupees. "A riot has occurred. This is unfortunate. We do not want riots. "We will reveal how outsiders, with the assistance of some local residents, sparked the clashes," she added.
