Former Army Chief General Shankar Roychowdhury (Retd) claimed on Friday that the Pahalgam terror assault was the result of "intelligence failure" and called for responsibility at the highest levels. Roychowdhury, the country's 18th Army commander, told PTI, "I anticipate an intelligence failure. Someone must take responsibility for the breaches.
There is obviously someone to blame for neglect, and they must be held accountable for the repercussions. He also said Pakistan and its intelligence agency ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) played a hand in the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 civilians, largely tourists, were shot dead by terrorists in front of their families.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) proxy group, The Resistance Front (TRF), has claimed responsibility for the attack. When asked if the Indian government's diplomatic sanctions against Pakistan were sufficient, Roychowdhury responded, "The diplomatic steps taken are insufficient." Resistance measures will need to be adopted. It is up to us to determine their shape. Conventional measures would not suffice.
