Russia announces 3-day surprise ceasefire in Ukraine, from May 8-10

Russia has announced a three-day ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8 to 10, coinciding with Moscow's World War II Victory Day commemorations. "Russia believes that Ukraine should follow this example. "If the Ukrainian side violates the truce, the Russian armed forces will respond adequately and effectively," the Kremlin stated in a statement.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a complete stop of hostilities on 'humanitarian reasons' for Victory Day. The truce will begin at 0000 on May 8 (2100 GMT May 7) and extend until May 10.
The announcement comes as US President Donald Trump steps up attempts to broker a peace agreement in Ukraine. Until that point, Putin had refused to support a complete unconditional truce, citing a halt in Western weaponry supply to Ukraine and the mobilization effort.
