In the Western Indian Ocean, the Indian Navy's Western Naval Command reported Wednesday that it had stopped suspicious vessels and collected more than 2500 kg of drugs. The Navy’s P8I aircraft sent several inputs to the frontline frigate INS Tarkash on March 31 about suspicious vessel movements in the region. It was suspected that the vessels were involved in the transportation of illegal drugs and other prohibited substances.
Marine Commandos and a specialized boarding squad entered the suspected ship and searched it thoroughly, finding many wrapped packets. Over 2,500 kg of narcotics, including 2386 kg of hashish and 121 kg of heroin, were discovered by the staff during a search and questioning operation in various cargo holds and compartments of the ship.
The personnel of the vessels were questioned about their methods of operation, and the illegal substances were seized. The Navy also determined the whereabouts of other comparable ships in the region.
