Nearly 50 public parks and gardens in sensitive parts of the Kashmir Valley have been closed as a precautionary measure following the Pahalgam terror assault, officials announced on Tuesday. Gates have been closed at 48 of Kashmir's 87 public parks and gardens due to the perceived threat to tourists, officials said. They stated that the security evaluation was ongoing, and that additional places may be added to the list in the coming days.

According to officials, the tourist attractions that have been shuttered are in remote areas of Kashmir and include some of the new destinations that have opened in the last decade. Tourist-restricted areas include Doodhpathri, Kokernag, Duksum, Sinthan Top, Acchabal, Bangus Valley, Margan Top, and Tosamaidan.

Though the authorities have not issued an official order, access to certain locations has been restricted. Several Mughal Gardens in south Kashmir have their doors locked. The decision to close the tourist attractions comes a week after terrorists killed 26 people, mostly tourists, at Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam.
