In Jamnagar, Gujarat, an Indian Air Force Jaguar fighter plane crashed. Searches are underway for the other pilot, who has ejected. One pilot was successfully ejected before to the disaster, but the other remains unaccounted for. Following the crash, the airplane caught fire. Superintendent of Police Premsukh Delu was quoted by news agency PTI as stating, "Police and firefighters have rushed to the spot and started searching for the missing pilot."
Videos taken at the scene in Suvarda village, 12 km from Jamnagar city, revealed what looked to be a field on fire, along with the wrecked plane's cockpit and tail, which are seen lying in various places. The twin-seater Jaguar was on a regular training flight, according to Indian Air Force (IAF) sources.
The IAF makes extensive use of the Jaguar, a twin-engine fighter bomber that comes in single and twin-seat versions. Since its initial induction in the late 1970s, it has undergone numerous upgrades. Another IAF Jaguar aircraft experienced a technical failure and crashed near Ambala on March 7. After maneuvering the aircraft away from populated areas, the pilot successfully evacuated the aircraft.
