The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 has been challenged in the Supreme Court by Congress MP Muhammad Jawed and Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). On Thursday, the Rajya Sabha passed the Waqf Bill with 128 MPs voting in favor and 95 against it. Early on April 3, it was approved by the Lok Sabha with 288 votes in favor and 232 against.

According to PTI, the Congress MP has argued against the bill, claiming that it undermines the religious sovereignty of the Muslim community by placing "arbitrary restrictions" on Waqf properties and their administration. Advocate Anas Tanwir filed the appeal, arguing that the bill discriminated against Muslims by "imposing restrictions that are not present in the governance of other religious endowments."

According to Live Law, Owaisi has claimed in his plea that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025's provisions "brazenly violate the fundamental rights of Muslims and the Muslim community."
