Yeshwant, a six-year-old boy from Chintamani talukx in Karnataka, suffered a traumatic accident in class more than a year ago that left him permanently blind in his right eye. The teacher and five other people, including representatives of the education department, have now been charged by authorities in connection with the case.

Yeshwant was in Class 1 on March 6, 2024, when the incident happened in a government school. A teacher is accused of throwing a stick at a group of kids while trying to reprimand them in the classroom. Yeshwant's right eye was hit by the stick, resulting in what seemed to be a minor injury at the time.

At first, the boy's parents were unaware of how serious the damage was. But as his health worsened over the next few days, they sought the advice of an ophthalmologist in Chintamani, who recommended that they seek additional care at the district hospital. In December 2024, doctors at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru operated on the infant twice in an effort to fix the injury. The child's eyesight did not get better in spite of these attempts. The family's greatest worries were validated during a follow-up session at a private hospital: the boy had lost all vision in his right eye.
