In a separate address to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday, amid escalating tensions, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly denounced the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that killed 26 people, primarily tourists.

The phone calls coincide with Pakistan's assertion that it has "credible intelligence" that India intends to attack the country militarily in the next 24 to 36 hours. Attaullah Tarar, the federal minister for information and broadcasting, wrote on X that "Pakistan has credible intelligence that India intends to carry out military action against Pakistan in the next 24-36 hours on the pretext of baseless and concocted allegations of involvement in the Pahalgam incident."

This could be interpreted as an attempt to deflect attention from Pakistan's failure to combat terrorism. Shehbaz Sharif claimed on X that he had a conversation with Antonio Guterres and begged for an impartial inquiry into the Pahalgam event.
