Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair in contention for place in Test squad

There will be no surprise changes in India’s squad for the upcoming Test tour of England, with Shubman Gill set to be officially named captain of the red-ball team. The 25-year-old Punjab batter, who currently serves as vice-captain in ODIs under Rohit Sharma, is poised to lead the side in the five-Test series scheduled for June and July. The national selection committee is expected to make the announcement during their meeting in Mumbai on Saturday, May 24.

Except for a few new inclusions, the squad is expected to remain largely unchanged from the one that toured Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between November and January. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having recently announced their retirement from Test cricket, the two senior players will understandably be absent from the lineup.
