Inter Miami defender Noah Allen has spoken out in support of head coach Javier Mascherano, calling the recent fan criticism of the Argentine "unfair" amid a difficult stretch for the team.

A section of Inter Miami supporters have voiced frustration over the club’s poor form, with just one win in their last eight matches and 23 goals conceded during that span. Some have begun calling for Mascherano’s dismissal, but Allen believes blame is being misdirected.

“I think the criticism of Mascherano is unfair,” Allen said during a press conference on Tuesday. “Everyone tends to look at the coach first when results don’t come, and that’s understandable. But players need to take accountability too. He’s not the one on the field — we are.”

Allen pointed to the team’s demanding schedule as a contributing factor, noting, “We’ve played more games than almost any other MLS team this year besides Vancouver. It’s natural to hit a rough patch. This happens across the footballing world.”

He praised Mascherano’s efforts and leadership, saying, “He’s been guiding us, pushing us, and trying his best. There's still an opportunity to turn things around.”

Mascherano, for his part, has accepted full responsibility for the team’s poor run. Speaking to reporters, he emphasized his role in taking pressure off the players.

“I’m responsible for everything,” Mascherano said. “The players need to feel free to play. If they carry too much weight, it becomes difficult. Football is just a game — we have to play it with freedom and confidence.”

He concluded with a message to his squad: “Play without fear. Don't wait until we’re down to respond. Start strong, stay calm, and enjoy the game.”
