Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara announced on Saturday that eight people had been taken into custody by police in relation to the savage killing of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty. Following high-level talks with Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, and other top police officers on Friday to evaluate the state of peace and order, Parameshwara made the statement.
A group of unidentified attackers killed Suhas Shetty, a notoriously unruly sheeter and a key suspect in the Fazil murder investigation, by hacking him to death on Thursday. Around 8:30 p.m., he was attacked by criminals brandishing lethal weapons inside the boundaries of the Bajpe police station in the village of Kinnipadavu, Mangaluru. Shetty was traveling with five other persons when his car was stopped by at least five or six individuals.
CCTV footage of the assault shows five attackers brandishing swords and machetes as they attacked Shetty. He was taken to AJ Hospital, where he passed away from his wounds, Mangaluru police say. Three cars linked to the crime were seized by police during the inquiry. According to reports, weapons were found inside a vehicle. Prior to the incident, Shetty was the target of social media harassment, according to police sources quoted by PTI. Threats and pictures of Shetty and other alleged murders were shared on the now-deactivated "Target Killer" Instagram page.
