Curriculum revision allows stressed students to take exams later: BITS Pilani Goa on suicides

According to officials on Sunday, Panaji, BITS Pillani's Goa campus is now updating its curriculum and giving students the choice to retake tests at a later time if they are experiencing stress. This comes after the school's Goa location saw three student suicides in a five-month period. An internal examination of the campus support system for students has also been started by the institute.
Earlier this week, a 20-year-old student was discovered hanging in his dorm room. "A distinct committee has been established to simplify the academic content while we redesign the current curriculum. The option to reschedule exams has been granted to students who are distressed by the current situation. The updated curriculum will include new classes on stress management and physical and mental wellness. In order to offer prompt interventions and individualized support, the institute is developing a Student Wellbeing Dashboard, according to a release.
According to the institute, it has started an internal investigation to see how it can best fortify its support systems going forward and is offering assistance to the family and local authorities.
