In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya asked that the National inquiry Agency (NIA) be given control of the Suhas Shetty murder inquiry. The BJP MP stated that a central investigation would guarantee justice and openness, citing worries about the potential involvement of extremist elements.

In his letter, Surya compared this to previous targeted assassinations in which the NIA had revealed the involvement of outlawed groups such as the Popular Front of India (PFI). There is increasing concern that this incident may also have been caused by similar extremist elements. A comprehensive, unbiased probe would be ensured by a central agency-led inquiry," the MP stated.

Eight individuals have been taken into custody in relation to Shetty's murder, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Saturday. Speaking to the media, Parameshwara stated that in order to prevent actions that incite sectarian strife, the state administration was putting together a special anti-communal task force.
