Real-time mock drill: Locations in Delhi, Noida, and other cities go dark for a blackout drill

Live updates for the mock drill: Full-scale civil defense mock drills are being held nationwide on Wednesday to assess India's emergency response readiness in the face of rising tensions with Pakistan. On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs instructed all states and union territories to carry out the exercises in order to assess their readiness for "new and complex threats."
The order was given Monday as India got ready to launch Operation Sindoor, an operation that would target terror positions in Pakistan along the Line of Control (LOC), on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The attacks were a direct reaction to the April 22 terror incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, the majority of them terrorists.
The Indian military carried out "focused strikes" on nine terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as part of Operation Sindoor, which caught Pakistan off guard. Reviewing India's civil defense readiness is now much more important in light of the potential for further escalation of hostilities. These large-scale simulated exercises may have been carried out all throughout India since 1971.
