In the midst of increased tensions between India and Pakistan over the military strikes in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, Saudi Arabia's minister of state for foreign affairs, Adel al-Jubeir, arrived in New Delhi on Thursday for an unexpected visit and met with S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs. Jaishankar's social media post was the sole information on the meeting between the Indian minister and the Saudi leader, who also serves as the kingdom's climate envoy. "This morning's meeting with Saudi Arabia's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, @AdelAljubeir, went well," he said.

In regard to India's military strikes on Wednesday that targeted terrorist infrastructure at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Jaishankar stated, "Shared India's perspectives on firmly countering terrorism."

According to the Pakistani military, 26 persons were killed and 46 injured in the attacks. The operation, code-named Operation Sindoor, heightened tensions between the two sides that had been present since the 26-person Pahalgam terror assault on April 22. Due to "cross-border linkages" to the Pahalgam slaughter, India had announced a number of severe diplomatic, economic, and political steps, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
