Amid increased tensions between the two nations, Pakistan's external affairs ministry reported on Thursday that ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir have resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians and the injuries of another 59.Since the Pahalgam terror assault on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, primarily tourists, tensions between India and Pakistan have increased dramatically. The Indian military's strike code-named "Operation Sindoor," which targeted terrorist infrastructure at nine locations in Pakistani-controlled regions, intensified feelings on Wednesday.
Following the Indian attacks on Wednesday, Pakistani soldiers opened fire with artillery, according to persons close with the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity. Since last month, Pakistani forces have been violating the ceasefire, which has been in effect along the LoC since early 2021, with small arms fire.
According to the ministry of external affairs, 13 persons were murdered in ceasefire violations, all of them died in the Poonch area. The truce violations also resulted in the injuries of 59 civilians, including 44 in the Poonch region. Between January and the beginning of April 2025, Pakistani military broke the ceasefire agreement in February 2021 about fifteen times. However, the most significant cross-border interactions since the truce was established four years ago were triggered by the frequent targeting of Indian troops along the LoC and the international boundary.
