Nothing Phone 3 to Offer 7 Years of Software Updates, Powered by Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

By : Sandhya
British tech brand Nothing has officially confirmed that its upcoming flagship, the Nothing Phone 3, will come with an extended seven-year software support period. This includes five years of Android OS updates and seven years of security patches—a major leap from previous models.
Responding to a query on X (formerly Twitter) about the phone’s processor choice, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis explained why the company selected Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 over the more widely recognized Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. According to Evangelidis, the newer 8s Gen 4 not only supports a longer software update window but also delivers better performance in critical areas like GPU, NPU, and connectivity. He mentioned that using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 would have limited the update cycle to just four years.
In terms of performance, Nothing claims the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 provides:
88% improved GPU performance
33% better CPU output
125% more efficient NPU for AI tasks
Compared to the Nothing Phone 2, these upgrades mark a significant leap forward.
