From BA to MBA degrees, backdated graduation and postgraduation certificates from universities across the country were allegedly provided to students in Delhi-NCR in lieu of hefty sums of money as part of a large-scale fake degree racket that operated from coaching centres, police said on Friday.
Five people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in fabricating and distributing forged academic certificates, said officers. The racket was busted following a tip-off, said officers.
The students were allegedly lured with flyers distributed near schools and colleges and ads posted on social media platforms. “The accused promoted their illegal services using social media platforms and as well as through printed flyers distributed near coaching hubs and student-populated areas. The documents had an appearance close to genuine ones issued by universities,” said Special Commissioner of Police (CP), Crime Branch, Devesh Chandra Srivastava.
