Jammu, June 20 – In a dramatic rescue operation, nine men who were stranded in the middle of the swollen Tawi river in Jammu were safely rescued on Thursday afternoon, amid rising water levels triggered by heavy rains in the region.

The incident occurred when the group, reportedly local fishermen and sand extractors, ventured into the river early in the morning. As rainfall intensified, the water level of the Tawi river rose rapidly, cutting off their route back to the riverbank. Stranded on a sandbar surrounded by gushing water, the men were seen waving and calling for help.

Upon receiving information, the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Response Force (JKDRF), along with local police and fire services, rushed to the scene. Rescue teams used ropes, inflatable boats, and life jackets to reach the marooned individuals. After nearly two hours of coordinated effort, all nine men were brought to safety.

A large crowd gathered on the banks to witness the operation, and their cheers erupted as the last person was pulled to safety. Officials confirmed that none of the individuals suffered serious injuries.

Jammu Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya praised the quick response of the rescue teams and urged citizens to avoid venturing near rivers during the monsoon season. "The river's flow can turn dangerous in minutes. We advise everyone to exercise caution," he said.

The rescue has been hailed as a timely intervention that averted a potential tragedy. Authorities have placed emergency services on high alert in anticipation of continued rainfall over the next few days.
