A YouTuber from Punjab’s Rupnagar, Jasbir Singh, was arrested in Mohali on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a Pakistani espionage network, officials said. The network was uncovered by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Mohali.
Singh, who runs a YouTube channel named ‘Jaan Mahal’ and resides in Mahlan village, was produced in a Mohali court, which granted police custody for three days.
While being escorted to court, Singh told reporters, “Truth will prevail.” Police say Singh is linked to Pakistani intelligence operative Shakir, also known as Jutt Randhawa, who is part of a terror-backed espionage network. Singh allegedly maintained close contact with Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, also arrested on spying charges, and Ehsan-ur-Rahim (alias Danish), a former Pakistani High Commission official who was expelled.
Investigations revealed Singh attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi at Danish’s invitation, where he met Pakistani Army officials and vloggers. He traveled to Pakistan three times (in 2020, 2021, and 2024). Authorities found multiple Pakistan-based phone numbers on his electronic devices, which are now under forensic examination, police added.
