**Trump Mulls Federal Takeover of D.C., Hints at Similar Move for NYC Amid Crime Talk**

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that the federal government could take over the administration of Washington, D.C., to address crime concerns — and hinted at a similar possibility for New York City.

“We have tremendous power at the White House to run places when we have to,” Trump said during a recent cabinet meeting. “We could run D.C. We’re looking at it. We don’t want crime in D.C. We want the city to run well. We’re thinking about doing it, to be honest with you.”

Although Trump did not provide specific details about how such a federal intervention would work, he noted that his chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is “working very closely” with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. “We’ve had a good relationship with the mayor, and we’re testing it to see if it works,” he added.

Bowser, a Democrat, has reportedly made efforts to align with Trump during his second term, including discussions about city development and a new NFL stadium project near the Anacostia River. She also oversaw the removal of the Black Lives Matter mural near the White House.

Trump insisted that if his team took control, the city would be “run so properly,” claiming that crime would be brought “down to a minimal.”

The former president also turned his attention to New York City, criticizing Democratic primary winner Zohran Mamdani, calling him a “communist,” and warning that his leadership would damage the city. “If a communist gets elected to run New York, it can never be the same,” Trump said. “But we have tremendous power… New York City will run properly. We’re going to bring New York back.”

Ironically, Trump’s remarks come as D.C. reports its lowest violent crime rate in three decades. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, violent crime in 2024 has dropped 35% from the previous year — including a 32% reduction in homicides and a 39% drop in robberies.
