Jamiat moves Madras HC seeking ban on 'Udaipur Files' as per Madani's order

The Tamil Nadu unit of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Madras High Court seeking a stay on the release of the film Udaipur Files, citing serious concerns over its potential to incite communal unrest and promote hate speech. The petition, filed by Haji Hasan Ahmed, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama Tamil Nadu, was submitted under the instructions of Jamiat's national president Maulana Mahmood Madani and in consultation with Darul Uloom rector Maulana Abul Qassim Noumani. The case has been registered under writ petition number 105184/2025.
Request for Halt and Review
In the PIL, Ahmed has requested the court to issue a writ of mandamus directing key authorities — including the Tamil Nadu government’s Principal Secretary, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting — to pause the film’s release and conduct a legal re-examination of its content.
The petition highlights concerns about the film’s trailer, claiming it portrays a sensitive communal incident in a sensational and inflammatory manner. It argues that the depiction of beheading as a punishment for blasphemy dangerously misrepresents the Muslim community, reinforces harmful stereotypes, and could trigger communal disharmony.
The petitioner insists that releasing such a film without a careful content review poses a threat to public order and communal peace.
