In a significant diplomatic development, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu held crucial talks that marked a renewed phase in India-Maldives bilateral ties. The two leaders announced several key agreements, including a fresh line of credit, efforts to boost trade cooperation, and the introduction of direct flight services between both nations.

Celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations, PM Modi reaffirmed that the Maldives remains central to India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Vision MAHASAGAR. A commemorative stamp featuring traditional watercraft from both countries was released to symbolize the deep-rooted cultural and maritime bonds.

The leaders discussed regional security, with Modi assuring continued defence cooperation and support. These developments come after a period of strained relations and are seen as a major turnaround in diplomacy between the two Indian Ocean neighbors.
