Wirtz Debuts as Liverpool Fall to Milan in Pre-Season Clash

Liverpool’s record signing Florian Wirtz made his debut start as Arne Slot’s side suffered a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan at a packed Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong.

Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz were notably absent from the squad. While Slot cited injury for Nunez, Diaz was left out due to “speculation on his future” amid transfer rumours linking him away from Anfield. The club has recently signed Hugo Ekitike and is reportedly pursuing Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Before kick-off, Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish laid a floral tribute as players wore ‘Diogo J 20’ on their kits to honour former teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car crash in Zamora earlier this month.
