In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Mumbai Police have unearthed a large-scale drug racket operating out of Mysuru, Karnataka, and seized mephedrone worth ₹382 crore. The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch led the operation, marking one of the largest drug busts in recent years. The synthetic drug, also known as MD or “meow meow,” was discovered during raids conducted across multiple locations in Mysuru, following a detailed intelligence-led investigation.
The operation began after police traced suspicious drug-related activities and financial transactions back to a network operating outside Maharashtra. Acting on the leads, the ANC deployed teams to Karnataka and worked in close coordination with local police authorities in Mysuru. During the raids, police discovered a well-organized illegal drug manufacturing unit where mephedrone was being produced and packaged for distribution across multiple states.
According to officials, the seizure includes over 100 kilograms of mephedrone, a potent synthetic stimulant banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The estimated street value of the seized contraband is approximately ₹382 crore. In addition to the drugs, the police also recovered chemicals, equipment, and packaging materials from the facility, which indicate a high level of technical sophistication and planning.
Several individuals have been detained in connection with the operation, including key figures believed to be running the manufacturing unit. The arrested suspects are being interrogated to uncover links to larger drug networks, both domestic and international. Authorities are also investigating the financial trail to determine whether the profits were being laundered through shell companies or cryptocurrency transactions.
