Bikram Majithia gets 3 weeks to amend bail plea in assets case

Chandigarh: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, currently in judicial custody, has been granted three weeks by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to revise his bail petition in a case linked to disproportionate assets. The court will hear the amended plea on July 29.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Majithia’s legal team sought more time to rectify errors in the original petition filed last week. The court accepted the request and allowed a three-week extension.
Majithia was arrested on June 25 by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau under the Prevention of Corruption Act, following a raid at his Amritsar residence. He was brought to Mohali the next day.
After an initial seven-day remand, his custody was extended by four more days. On July 7, a Mohali court sent him to judicial custody until July 19 in a separate money laundering case connected to drug trafficking allegations. He is currently lodged in New Nabha Jail and was produced before the duty magistrate under tight security.
Political Fallout and Allegations of Vendetta
Majithia’s arrest has triggered sharp political reactions from the SAD, with senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government of political vendetta.
“This is an attempt to malign Akali Dal leadership through false propaganda. The government is misusing its power just like during the Emergency,” Cheema alleged.
The case remains under intense political and legal scrutiny as both sides prepare for the upcoming court dates.
