‘Alien: Earth’ stars bond with Adarsh Gourav over Lagaan, music

Stepping into the Alien universe is a significant challenge, as the franchise has captivated and scared audiences worldwide for decades. Now, 'Alien: Earth' brings new characters and ideas to the screen, with Essie Davis and Erana James playing key roles in this sci-fi action series. Davis portrays a brilliant scientist with ambitious goals, while James plays a synthetic navigating a world threatened by an alien arrival.
In a conversation with ETimes, both actresses talked about their experience joining the new chapter and helping shape the franchise's future. Essie Davis described the experience as an honor, highlighting the talented cast and supportive crew, making it a special time on set. Her character, Dame Silvia, is a high-ranking scientist who creates synthetic hybrids by placing human child consciousness into powerful artificial bodies. She explained that these synthetic hybrids explore the ideas of human immortality and the risks of artificial intelligence.
Erana James plays Curly, a synthetic in the series. She noted that the show pays tribute to Ridley Scott’s original film while also branching into new territory with extensive world-building and room for future growth. The series introduces Indian actor Adarsh Gourav as Sightly, another synthetic. Erana shared that she trained extensively with him, focusing on connecting with their characters' inner child through music and play.
Essie spoke about bonding with Adarsh, mentioning their shared love for the film Lagaan and how he sang beautiful Indian music on set. She praised him as a talented actor and a wonderful person, adding that working with him was enjoyable.
Adarsh Gourav is well-known internationally for his role in the Academy Award-nominated film The White Tiger and the Apple TV+ series Extrapolations.
Set in the Alien universe, 'Alien: Earth' follows a young woman and a group of soldiers who confront a major threat after the space vessel Maginot crashes on Earth. The series builds on Ridley Scott’s original vision, adding new characters and exploring themes like artificial intelligence through high-stakes drama.
The cast also features Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Jonathan Ajayi, Lily Newmark, Kit Young, Sandra Yi Sencindiver, Adrian Edmondson, and David Rysdahl. The eight-part series premiered on August 12, 2025, with episodes releasing every Tuesday.
