Rajkot (Gujarat), August 24 (ANI): Cheteshwar Pujara, one of India’s most dependable Test batters, announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket on Sunday. The 37-year-old, known for his resilience and technique, said he is open to exploring future opportunities, including a potential role as a batting coach.

Speaking to reporters, Pujara remarked, “I haven’t thought about it yet. I have only retired from cricket, so in the future I will be open to all the opportunities.”

Pujara made his international debut in October 2010 and went on to play 103 Test matches, scoring 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 fifties. His finest moment came during the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he scored 521 runs in four Tests and played a key role in India’s first-ever Test series victory in Australia.

Over the years, Pujara remained a cornerstone of India’s Test batting lineup, particularly known for his defensive skills and composure under pressure. Despite being absent from the national side in recent years, he continued to play domestic cricket and also took up commentary during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Explaining his decision to retire, Pujara said, “This plan was going on for a week. I have not been a part of the Indian team for the last few years, but I thought this was the right time, as young players are getting opportunities in domestic cricket. After consulting my family and senior players, I felt it was important to move on.”

Pujara leaves behind a legacy defined by patience, determination, and significant contributions to Indian Test cricket. His future involvement in the game, possibly as a coach or mentor, is anticipated with interest.
