In collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), Airbus said on Wednesday that it would establish a production line for the H125 helicopters at Vemagal, Karnataka. This would be the fourth facility of its kind worldwide and the first private sector helicopter final assembly line in India. Karnataka was among the four states shortlisted by Airbus to build the single-engine helicopter in the country.
In addition to meeting the Indian military's need for a lightweight multipurpose helicopter, particularly on the frigid heights of the nation's Himalayan border, the "Made in India" H125 helicopter will aid in the development of new private and parapublic market segments. A military version, the H125M, is planned to be produced at this Indian plant using a large number of indigenous parts and technologies, according to Airbus.
Early in 2027, the first H125 is anticipated to leave the plant, and South Asian nations will also purchase the Indian-built helicopters. India is the perfect place for helicopters. "A 'Made in India' helicopter will contribute to the growth of this market and establish helicopters as a vital instrument for nation-building," stated Jurgen Westermeier, president of Airbus India and South Asia.
