Police claim more than 100 Maoists have surrendered in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh

Raipur: According to police, 103 Maoists turned themselves in on Thursday in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, including 49 cadres who had bounties on their heads. Senior police and paramilitary officers were there when the mass surrender occurred.
A comprehensive list of the cadres who turned themselves in was made public by the police. It comprises a variety of high officials and lower-level militia members, many of whom are from the Muria tribal populations in the villages of Bhairamgarh, Gangalur, Nelsonar, and other Bijapur police station regions. According to the announcement, "people between the ages of 18 and 40 accounted for a significant portion of those who left the movement."
According to the release, "a number of other area committee leaders, Revolutionary People's Committee (RPC) and militia commanders, and members of the so-called Janatana Sarkar were also part of the group." Others who surrendered their weapons included senior PPCM and security guard commander Bhima Sodhi alias Kamal Singh/Sukhdev (reward ₹8 lakh); Guddu Farsa (alias Vijay) of company number 10 (reward ₹8 lakh); and south sub-zonal bureau communication commander Lacchu Punem alias Santosh (reward ₹8 lakh).
