Voices from Gaza: What does the new hope entail in contrast to decades of pessimism?

By : Sandhya
Despite decades of violence and destruction, Palestinians in Gaza were optimistic on Saturday that US President Donald Trump will continue to put pressure on Israel to halt the two-year-old conflict, which has killed tens of thousands of people and forced the entire population of more than two million to flee their homes.
In addition to the US's 20-point plan for Gaza, Hamas' announcement that it was prepared to release captives and agree to some of the conditions of Trump's plan to end the conflict while requesting further negotiations on a number of important topics is also contributing to the renewed optimism. "It's good news because it protects the living. This is sufficient. Everything has been devastated, including houses. What's left? Saoud Qarneyta, 32, told Reuters, "Nothing." Gazans hope that the new day would bring an end to the region's battles, which have only left the people there in death, destruction, and famine.
"We want President Trump to continue advocating for the war's termination. If this opportunity is squandered, Israel will obliterate Gaza City and we may not make it out alive. Two years of death, malnutrition, and bombardment is enough. Ismail Zayda, 40, told Reuters in a social media discussion, "Enough."
