On Saturday night local time, two persons were reportedly inside a mosque in Peacehaven, England's south coast, which is close to Brighton. The mosque was set on fire. According to CNN, the arson is being investigated by the authorities as a possible hate crime. Two balaclava-wearing males tried to force open the mosque's door before dousing the stairs with gasoline and setting it on fire, according to a voluntary mosque manager who spoke to the news source on condition of anonymity.

The incident did not result in any injuries. "It could have been murder," a mosque volunteer told the BBC, adding that the two individuals inside were able to escape safely.

Although no one was hurt in the incident, Sussex Police stated in a statement that a car parked outside and the building's front entry were damaged. According to Detective Superintendent Karrie Bohanna, "We understand the concerns this has caused within the community, and the impact that will be felt by the Muslim community as a result," the BBC reported.
