A woman from the Northeast recently used social media to expose the prejudice she encountered in Delhi after experiencing two instances of racist harassment in one day. Using the Instagram handle @__insolitude, the Meghalayan woman revealed that she was attacked twice in a single day, once in Kamla Nagar and again at a metro station.
"I had some employment at Kamla Nagar. I was strolling when I noticed a group of three or four adult men. As I was walking by, one of the men shouted, "Seng chong," while they were seated on their scooter. They all burst out laughing as soon as I heard it, and I turned back to face him. They were staring at me and laughing, and my brain was struggling to comprehend what I had just heard. I remained silent, though, and went to the store," she said.
She chose to remain silent and carry on with her errands while still being scared. However, a few minutes later, she was called "Ching Chong China" by another man, who used a racist epithet while riding the metro. It occurred for the second time in a single day. I didn't say anything; I simply stared at him," she stated.
