Gyanesh Kumar, the CEC, argues that SIR is both essential and lawful prior to the Bihar elections

Gyanesh Kumar, the chief election commissioner (CEC), defended the Election Commission of India's decision to carry out the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list prior to the Bihar assembly elections on Sunday, claiming that it is "unjustified" for anyone to argue that the revision should take place after the elections. The Chief Election Commissioner explained that the Representation of the People Act requires and permits the SIR to be conducted.
Regarding the choice to hold the Special Intensive Revision before to the elections, if you follow the Representation of the People Act, the Election Commission is legally obligated to carry out the revision prior to each election. "It is unjustified for someone to suggest that the revision should be carried out after the elections," Kumar stated at a press conference in Patna.
"Anyone who has a complaint about the addition or deletion of voters' names through 'SIR' can appeal to the District Magistrate (DM)," the CEC said. According to the CEC, anyone or any political party may still submit "claims and objections" if they are worried that "any eligible voter has been left out" or that the name of an invalid voter is on the voter list.
