Centre Approves 1.41 Lakh Houses Under PMAY-U 2.0 Across 14 States | PMAY-U Latest News 2025

The Indian government sanctions 1.41 lakh new houses under PMAY-U 2.0 in 14 states, prioritizing women, senior citizens, and marginalized groups. Learn about eligibility, funding, and state-wise distribution.

The Government of India has approved the construction of 1,41,000 additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0, extending the mission to urban poor and middle-class families across 14 states and union territories. The announcement was made following the fifth meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), chaired by MoHUA Secretary Srinivas Katikithala in Delhi.

Of the newly approved homes, 76,976 units are earmarked for women, including single, widowed, and separated beneficiaries. Additionally, 13,509 homes are allocated for senior citizens and seven for transgender persons, ensuring inclusive housing for all vulnerable groups. Socially, 29,131 houses target Scheduled Castes (SC), 6,561 for Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 74,291 for Other Backward Classes (OBC), demonstrating the government’s focus on equitable urban development.

With these approvals, PMAY-U 2.0 has sanctioned 631,000 houses for women, including more than 70,000 for single or widowed females. Furthermore, 104,000 units have been designated for senior citizens, while 163 homes will benefit transgender communities. The program has also sanctioned approximately 220,000 houses for SC households, 51,181 for STs, and 535,000 for OBC families.

The approved projects span 14 states and union territories, including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The ministry has urged state governments to ensure projects are located in areas with adequate infrastructure, connectivity, and access to public transport. Accelerated construction timelines, loan fairs for beneficiaries, and digital monitoring with geo-tagging tools are among the recommended measures for effective implementation.
